Anita Sharp-Bolster (born August 28, 1895 in Glenlohan , Ireland , † June 1, 1985 in North Miami , Florida ) was an Irish actress.

life and career

Anita Sharp-Bolster started her acting career at the famous Abbey Theater , the Irish national theater . A long and distinguished film and theater career followed in Great Britain before she moved to the United States in 1938. On the Broadway stages in New York, Sharp-Bolster achieved great success in 1940 with her appearance in the comedy Lady in Waiting . A little later she moved to Hollywood, where Alfred Hitchcock cast her in her most curious film role as a bearded circus lady in his thriller Saboteurs . With her distinctive voice, the character actress often played somewhat overly correct aristocratic ladies, old maidens or housekeepers in numerous Hollywood films of the 1940s. She also had other supporting roles in Billy Wilder's Oscar-winning alcoholic drama The Lost Weekend and in Fritz Lang's film noir Straße der Temptung , both from 1945. From the 1950s onwards, Sharp-Bolster mainly took on guest roles on television. Her last of over 100 film and television appearances was in 1978 in the British television series The Chiffy Kids .

The Irish-born Anita Sharp-Bolster died in Florida in 1985, three months before her 90th birthday.
