Anja Zimmer is a German lawyer and has been the director of Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg since March 2016 .

Anja Zimmer studied law at the University of Bonn . She then continued her studies at the Université de Paris , which she completed with the Diplôme d'études approfondies . She then did her doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg on the subject of “ Hate speech in international law”.

Anja Zimmer initially worked in the cultural department of the Foreign Office and then switched to the state radio station in North Rhine-Westphalia as a consultant . After working as a lawyer specializing in media law , telecommunications and antitrust law as well as multimedia law at the international law firm Lovells , she moved to Deutsche Telekom , where she was Senior Manager Government Relations responsible for media policy and regulation. She then became a partner with a focus on media and telecommunications law at the law firm Beiten Burkhardt . From 2009 she was the managing director of the North Rhine-Westphalia regional association in the German Association of Journalists . In March 2016 she succeeded Hans Hege as director of the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb).
