Anjem Choudary (2011)

Anjem Choudary (* 1967 in London ) is an Islamic fundamentalist ; he was the leader of the now banned Islamist group Islam4UK and is a supporter of Omar Bakri Mohammed . The British citizen and former lawyer is the son of Pakistani immigrants.

Choudary had previously founded two Islamist organizations that were later designated by the British government as terrorist and also banned. He openly calls Islam for UK “a branch of al-Muhajiroun”, a radical organization that has been banned since 2006.

In July 2016, Choudary was convicted of recruiting fighters for the Islamic State terrorist organization .

activities

Choudary is a qualified solicitor and chairman of the Society for Muslim Lawyers , although he was removed from their registry in 2002. He claims to be “judge” of the “ Sharia Court of the United Kingdom” ( Shari'ah Court of the UK ) alongside Omar Bakri . Neither of the two men, however, is an employee of the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal , the only legally binding Sharia court in Great Britain. In 2016, it was found that Choudary has been living on government support since 1996.

In an almost 30-minute interview with the Christian US broadcaster CBN in August 2012, Choudary explained his strategy, with the help of a growing proportion of the population of Muslims in Europe and the USA, gradually laying the foundations for the replacement of democracy and the establishment of an Islamic state (" Caliphate ") under the rule of Sharia :" If we have enough authority and we have enough power, then we are obliged as Muslims to take the authority away from those who have it and implement sharia "(If we have enough authority and Power, then we as Muslims are obliged to take the authority away from those who hold it and then to introduce Sharia).

USA Today has invited him as a guest author in connection with the murders of Charlie Hebdo workers . Under the heading “Why did Paris allow the paper to insult Islam?” He writes about the Sharia rules and quotes the “Messenger Mohamed” with this sentence: “If someone insults a prophet, kill him”.

After promoting the terrorist organization Islamic State on social media, Choudary was arrested and convicted, along with one of his supporters, Mohammad Mizanur, in July 2016 after a four-week trial by the Crown Court in the Old Bailey for recruiting terrorists for the Islamic State. The sentence was set at five and a half years in prison in September 2016. After less than half his sentence, his release from prison for October 2018 and suspension of the remainder of the sentence was announced.

family

Choudary is married and lived in Ilford, London with his wife Akhtar and five children until his arrest in 2016 .
