Anke Lohrer (born December 4, 1969 in Duisburg ) is a German contemporary artist.

life and work

Lohrer studied from 1995 to 2001 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Jannis Kounellis and Fritz Schwegler . She has been Fritz Schwegler's master class student since 1999. After completing her studies, she received a grant from the Franco-German Cultural Council for a stay in Paris with mentor Jean-Marc Bustamante at the École nationale .

She creates space-consuming installations, drawings and pictures. Her elaborate artist books deserve special mention. She uses materials such as paper, clay, books, videos in space and canvases for her work. Lohrer's work is about a connection between science and philosophy as well as about the boundaries and transitions between science and art. The flora is also increasingly at the center of her interest. Since 2007 Lohrer has held various teaching positions at universities (including Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf, University of Paderborn and Siegen, International Summer Academy Salzburg). She is a full member of the German Association of Artists .
