The anchor brewery was a brewery in Nördlingen , which dates back to 1608. Most recently (2016) around 20 people were employed here.
history
The name Ankerbrauerei is derived from the symbol of the anchor, which originated as an inn sign and thus signaled a safe haven for the night. The brewery was mentioned for the first time in 1608 and remained on the original site within the Nördlingen city wall . The company was family-run until the end. In January 2016, management announced that the brewery would cease production on September 30, 2016 for economic reasons (cited were increasing cost pressure, changing consumer behavior and limited technical and structural options at the historic location). Since October 2016, the beers have been produced by Fürst Wallerstein Brauhaus GmbH according to the Ankerbräu recipe.
