Anna Bahrjana ( Ukrainian А́нна Багря́на , English transcription Anna Bagriana ; born March 24, 1981 in Fastiw , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian writer and translator. Her birth name is Hanna Jurijiwna Bahrjanzewa / Га́нна Ю́ріївна Багря́нцева .

Life

Bahrjana studied Ukrainian language and literature at the Faculty of Philology at Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev . After graduating, she worked as a radio and television journalist. She is the author and presenter of the television show The Harmony of the Soul and a member of the National Association of Writers of Ukraine , of which she was secretary between 2006 and 2009. She also headed the Ukrainian League of Ukrainian Women between 2006 and 2008 and is a member of the Slavic Academy of Literature and Art in Bulgaria.

Bahrjana has published seven books of poetry, two collections of plays and three novels. She also compiled and translated an anthology of contemporary poetry from the Republic of Macedonia. Her works, for which she has received numerous literary prizes, have been translated into English, French, Polish, Bulgarian, Russian, Latvian, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Macedonian, Serbian, Croatian, Albanian, Lithuanian and Estonian, among others.
