Anna Bernholm

Anna Bernholm (born March 5, 1991 in Älvsbacka , Värmlands län ) is a Swedish judoka . She was third at the 2019 European Championships.

Athletic career

Until the summer of 2016, Bernholm started mostly in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 63 kilograms. In this weight class she took part in Swedish age group championships from 2007. In 2008 she won the cadet, junior and adult titles at the Nordic Championships. In 2009 and 2010 she was second in the Swedish national championships, in 2011 and 2012 she won her first titles. At the European Championships in Budapest in 2013 , she finished seventh. In 2015, she was eliminated from the European Championships held as part of the European Games in Baku in her first fight against the British Alice Schlesinger .

In the summer of 2016, she switched to middleweight, the weight class up to 70 kilograms. Her most important victory to date was achieved in September 2016 when she defeated the British Jemima Yeats-Brown in the final of the European Open in Tallinn . At the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw, she lost to French Marie Eve Gahié in the quarter-finals . After a victory over the Hungarian Szabina Gercsák and a defeat against the Croatian Barbara Matić , she finished fifth. In autumn 2017 Anna Bernholm won the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi ahead of Kim Polling from the Netherlands . In 2017 and 208 she won the Swedish championships. In November 2018 she reached the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka and was defeated by the Japanese Chizuru Arai . In May 2019, the two met again in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Baku and the Japanese won again. The 2019 European Championships were held as part of the European Games in Minsk. Bernholm defeated Kim Polling in the round of 16 and lost the quarter-finals to Margaux Pinot from France . With victories over Michaela Polleres from Austria and the French Marie Eve Gahié, Bernholm won a bronze medal.
