Margaux Pinot

Margaux Pinot (born January 6, 1994 in Besançon ) is a French judoka . She won the European middleweight title in 2019.

Athletic career

Margaux Pinot was the 2009 U17 European champion in the weight class up to 57 kilograms. From the end of 2009 to 2012 she competed in the weight class up to 63 kilograms. In 2010 she was second in this weight class of the U17 European Championships, in 2011 and 2012 she won the U20 European Championships.

From 2013 to 2015 Pinot fought in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 70 kilograms. In 2013 she was third at the U21 World Championships. In 2014 she was part of the French team that won the team title at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk. In 2015 Pinot won a bronze medal at the Universiade in Gwangju. At the end of 2015, she won the French championships for the first time.

In 2016 and 2017, the 1.69 m tall Pinot competed in the light middleweight division, in the weight class up to 63 kilograms. In 2016 she was French champion in this weight class. At the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw, she defeated Kathrin Unterwurzacher from Austria in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals she got through without a fight because her compatriot Clarisse Agbegnenou did not start due to injury. Pinot lost the European Championship final against Tina Trstenjak from Slovenia .

From 2018 Pinot started again in the middleweight division. At the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 2018, she lost to the Italian Carola Paissoni in the semifinals , while Pinot won a bronze medal with a victory over the Algerian Souad Bellakehal . In October 2018 she won the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi. A month later she won her third French championship. At the beginning of 2019 she reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, but lost there against the Japanese Yoko Ono . The 2019 European Championships were held as part of the 2019 European Games in Minsk. Pinot defeated Daria Pogorzelec from Poland in the semi-finals and Sanne van Dijke from the Netherlands in the final . Two days after winning the title, she won bronze in the team competition with the French team. At the end of August 2019 at the World Championships in Tokyo , she defeated Michaela Polleres from Austria in the quarter-finals , but lost in the semifinals to the Portuguese Barbara Timo . In the fight for a bronze medal, she prevailed against the Swede Anna Bernholm .
