Anna Bligh

Anna Maria Bligh AC (born July 14, 1960 in Warwick , Queensland ) is an Australian politician and was the 37th Prime Minister of Queensland from September 13, 2007 to March 26, 2012. She was the first woman to hold this post and is a member of the Labor Party .

biography

Anna Bligh was born in Warwick. She is a descendant of William Bligh , who became known as the Bounty Commander . She grew up on the Gold Coast in southeast Queensland. There, Bligh attended several Roman Catholic elementary schools and then the Miami State High School. She spent the last six months of her education at State High School in Nowra . Bligh studied at the University of Queensland until she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1980 . She then worked for various social organizations and the public service in the areas of employment, training and industrial relations . She was elected to the Queensland Parliament on July 15, 1995.

Parliamentary activity

In June 1998 she was appointed Minister for Family, Youth, Health and the Disabled in the Peter Beatties Labor Government . Ann Bligh was the first woman to serve under Queensland's ministers of education. She later became Minister of Finance, State Development, Trade and Innovation. In 2005 she became Deputy Premier of Queensland and Treasurer and Minister of Infrastructure with a budget of 33 billion Australian dollars.
