Anna Franz

Anna Franz (born October 23, 1953 in Bezau ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2002 to 2013 she was a member of the Austrian National Council in Vorarlberg and is the former mayor and deputy mayor of her home town of Bezau.

In 1960 Anna Franz started primary school in Bezau, after which she attended secondary school in the same place until 1968. In 1972 she completed her schooling at the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium in Egg with the Matura . She then attended the Pedagogical Academy in Feldkirch , where she passed the teaching examination for secondary schools in 1975 in the subjects of mathematics and art education. In the same year she started teaching at the secondary school in Bezau.

Political career

In 1986 Franz was elected to succeed her mother as chairwoman of the ÖVP women's movement in the Bregenzerwald . Two years later, she founded a parent-child center in Bezau, and in 1990 she was the only woman elected to the Bezau municipal council, to which she belonged until 2015. From 1995 she was also a member of the board of the REGIO Bregenzerwald in the areas of family, social affairs and women. In 1998 she became chairwoman of the community association social center "Bezau-Mellau-Reuthe". From 1998 to 2003 Anna Franz was mayor of Bezau and thus the first woman to hold a mayor's office in Vorarlberg. In the two following years, in addition to her national political activities in her home community, she continued to be Vice Mayor. On December 20, 2002, Anna Franz was sworn in as the elected representative of the Vorarlberg Nord regional constituency in the Austrian National Council as a member of the National Council.

In the legislative period up to 2013 she was subsequently a member of the National Council for the ÖVP, the sub-committee of the Science Committee, the Committee for Research, Innovation and Technology, the Committee for Petitions and Citizens' Initiatives, the Committee for Economy and Industry, the Justice Committee, the Tourism Committee, in the teaching committee and in the science committee. At the end of the XXIV legislative period , Anna Franz left the National Council because she was no longer running for the 2013 National Council election. Her successor as a representative of the Vorarlberg Nord constituency, elected with a basic mandate, was her party colleague Norbert Sieber . Within the party, Anna Franz was the district chairwoman of the Austrian women's movement and worked both in this and in the ÖAAB as a deputy national chairwoman.

After leaving federal politics, Anna Franz remained a member of the Bezau municipal council and chairwoman of the Bezau community association until the 2015 municipal council election , before resigning from all political functions. After that she was still active as a volunteer in various social associations and as a mentor for asylum seekers children in Bezau.

Private life

Anna Franz is married, mother of two sons and a daughter and lives in Bezau in the Bregenz Forest.
