Anna Martin (women's rights activist)

Anna Martin (* 17th November 1887 in Bern ; † 11. March 1975 ibid ; heimatberechtigt ibid) was a Swiss women's rights activist from the canton of Bern .

Life

Anna Martin was a daughter of Gottlieb Martin, civil servant , and Anna Hotz. She completed an apprenticeship as a tailor and a commercial apprenticeship. She worked as the chief accountant of a large company. She made stays in England and India .

For many years she was President of the Association of Women Business Employees of the City of Bern . From 1926 to 1930 she presided over the Swiss Association of Associations of Women Employees. She co-founded this in 1919. As such, she was a champion for women's right to work .

In 1928 she was the general commissioner of the Swiss Exhibition for Women's Work (SAFFA). She was the initiator of the SAFFA guarantee cooperative. From 1932 to 1953 she headed the office of Saffa in Bern. From 1949 to 1956 she was the accounting officer on the board of the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations . Martin held leading positions in the Bernese women's movement . She was also president of the operating committee of the non-alcoholic restaurant Daheim and co-founder of the dormitory for working women Pergola in Bern.
