Anna von Reuschenberg (* 1568 ; † August 15, 1629 in Aachen ) was the daughter of Wilhelm von Reuschenberg zu Overbach and Roschette and Margarethe von Gülpen and thus belonged to a branch of the noble family von Reuschenberg . She had 16 siblings and was u. a. the sister of the imperial colonel and bailiff zu Jülich Johann von Reuschenberg zu Overbach and the mistress of Helmond Philippine von Reuschenberg .

Live and act

In 1583 she was accepted into the Cistercian convent of Our Lady in Roermond and was elected abbess of the monastery in 1604 . However, after some time Anna von Reuschenberg was accused of neglecting discipline and order regulations. The abbot of Kamp was commissioned to restore them. The abbess von Reuschenberg opposed this, as did some canons. Among other things, she asked her relatives for support. They in turn complained to the Archduke about the Abbot of Kamp. The regulations of the order with its special enclosure and its strict rules are a reason why only a few suitable persons tried to be accepted into the order. On June 2, 1626, they applied for permission from the Archduke to convince Pope Urban VIII to convert the monastery into a noble monastery. The plan failed and the abbess was withdrawn in 1626. When the deposed abbess did not cease to badmouth her successor, she was sentenced on June 27, 1626 by the abbot of Kamp to imprisonment in another monastery. The Archduchess approved this decision in a letter dated December 24, 1626. An appeal to the General Chapter of the Cîteaux Monastery and to the Pope did not change this decision. Anna died on August 15, 1629 in Aachen, where she visited medicinal baths .
