Annabrücke

The Annabrücke is a road bridge in Carinthia . It crosses the Drau below Saager Castle and connects the communities of Grafenstein and Gallizien .

The first construction of the Annabrücke began in 1836. Before, there was only one ferry service across the Drau around two kilometers downstream near the village of Möchling.

The Annabrücke was fiercely contested in the Carinthian defensive battle on April 29 and from May 4 to 6, 1919. There are still many old bunkers in the area around the Annabrücke, but they have been out of service for many years. To mark the 80th anniversary of the Carinthian referendum , a granite stele was set up by the artist Werner Lössl at the bridgehead of the Annabrücke .

About one and a half kilometers upstream is the Annabrücke run-of-river power plant, which was built by the Austrian Drau power plants between 1976 and 81 .
