Anne-Sophie Pelletier (born February 5, 1976 in Besançon ) is a French nurse and politician ( La France insoumise ). She has been a member of the European Parliament since the 2019 European elections .

Life

education

Anne-Sophie Pelletier was born on February 5, 1976 in Besançon as the daughter of a drawing teacher, but grew up in neighboring Montbéliard . Pelletier completed her school education with a bac scientifique ("natural science Abitur"), then she studied at an art school in Aubusson. She later worked in a management position in a hotel.

Pelletier completed training as a nurse ( Aide médico-psychologique , comparable to psychological-technical assistance ). Pelletier was best known in 2017 as the leader of a 117-day strike in the Opalines dormitory for older, dependent people ( établissement d'hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes , EHPAD) in the municipality of Foucherans ( Jura department ). She joined the CGT during the strike before joining La France insoumise in October 2017 . The strike received national attention.

After this strike, she repeatedly drew attention to the grievances in the French health and care system. In 2019 she published the book "Ehpad, une honte française" (EPHAD, a French disgrace) in which she presented facts in detail.

In 2019, La France insoumise nominated Pelletier for fifth place on the list for the 2019 European elections . The party won 6 of the 79 French seats with 6.31 percent, so Pelletier moved in directly. Like her party colleagues, she joined the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left . For the group she is a member of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection , as well as a deputy member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs .

Pelletier is married.
