Anne A. Gershon

Anne A. Gershon is a pediatrician at Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City . Above all, she has made a contribution to the introduction of the chickenpox vaccination in the USA.

Gershon received her education from Smith College and Cornell University . Since 1986 she has been a professor of paediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons , Columbia University's medical school. Here she was most recently head of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases .

Anne Gershon researched the pathology , epidemiology , diagnosis, latency , prevention and treatment of chickenpox and herpes zoster . Her work on the safety of the varicella vaccine was critical to the approval of the vaccine and its USA-wide recommendation in 1995. Gershon has published over 350 scientific publications and is the editor of 14 specialist and textbooks.
