Anne Killigrew
Anne Killigrew (* early 1660 in London , † June 16, 1685 in London) was an English poet and painter.
Life
Anne Killigrew was a daughter of chaplain Henry Killigrew (1613-1700) and Judith Killigrew, who died in 1683. Theater manager Thomas Killigrew was an uncle. The family worked for the court of Charles II of England . Anne Killigrew was hired in 1683 as one of six Maids of Honor at the almost same age Mary of Modena, Duchess of York . Killigrew made a portrait of her that has not yet been found. She painted and drew other portraits; but so far only four paintings have been identified.
Anne Killigrew died of smallpox in 1685 . Her tomb in the Savoy Chapel was destroyed in a fire in 1864.
Her father printed a volume of her previously unpublished poems in 1685; the book was published in 1686 and also contained a self-portrait and three dedicatory poems, including John Dryden's Elegy To The Pious Memory of the Accomplish'd Young Lady Mrs. Anne Killigrew . Dryden gives information about her poetic work and her painting.
