Dolors Montserrat i Montserrat (born September 18, 1973 in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia , province of Barcelona ) is a Spanish lawyer and politician of the Partido Popular (PP), the Spanish people's party. From 2016 to 2018 she was Minister for Health, Social Services and Equality in the Rajoy II cabinet and from 2008 to 2019 a member of the Congreso de los Diputados . She has been a member of the European Parliament since July 2, 2019 .

Life

Dolors Montserrat was born as the daughter of the politician Dolors Montserrat i Culleré, member of the Parliament of Catalonia .

She studied law at the Universidad Abad Oliba CEU in Barcelona . As part of the Erasmus program , she attended the University of Ferrara and acquired basic knowledge of the German language at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . She completed postgraduate studies at the Pompeu Fabra University , the University of Barcelona , ESADE and the IESE Business School .

From 1997 to 2011 she worked as a lawyer specializing in civil, property and family law.

politics

In 1992 she joined the Partido Popular (PP), since 2004 she has been a member of the executive committee of the Catalan Partit Popular de Catalunya (PPC). From 2003 to 2015 she served as city councilor and spokeswoman for the PP group in her hometown of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia .

From 2008 until the parliamentary elections in 2019 she was a member of the Congreso de los Diputados , the lower house of the Spanish Parliament, the Cortes Generales, for the province of Barcelona in the 9th to the 12th legislative period . In the 10th electoral term, she acted there as third vice-president.

From November 4, 2016 to June 6, 2018, she was a member of the Rajoy II cabinet as Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality .

After the European elections in Spain in 2019 , she became a full member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and chairwoman of the Petitions Committee (PETI) for the European People's Party (EPP) in the 9th electoral term of the European Parliament beginning July 2nd, 2019 in the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and Head of Delegation of the Partido Popular.
