Anne McGinty

Anne McGinty (* 29. June 1945 in Findley , the US state of Ohio ) is an American composer , conductor and publisher .

Life

She studied at Ohio State University , Columbus with Donald McGinnis and flute , music theory with Bernard Goldberg and composition with Joseph Willcox Jenkins at Duquesne University , in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . At Duquesne University she also obtained a Bachelor of Music with the grade summa cum laude and a Master of Music . She is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the National Flute Association (NFA). After graduating, she gained orchestral experience as a solo flutist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra , the Tucson Pops Orchestra and the TSO Woodwind Quintet in the US state of Arizona . Very often she appeared as a soloist and was active as a workshop leader for her instrument. She has also worked as a flute teacher, giving flute lessons and giving lectures on chamber music for the mentally handicapped as well as for the Royal American Regiment Fife and Drum Corps . She also excelled as a writer in magazines, so u. a. as a columnist in The School Musician , the NFA newsletter and other magazines. For a while she was responsible for editions of music for woodwind instruments in a renowned publishing house, where she published works for flute ensemble for the first time.

She is married to the composer John Edmondson , with whom she has been self-publishing Queenwood Publications for brass music in Scottsdale since 1987 . In 2002 this publisher was sold to the Neil A. Kjos Music Company .

As a composer, of course, she also feels very attached to her instrument. Often in her oeuvre there is a work with solo flute or even a piece for flute ensemble. She was the first female composer to write a work for the United States Army Band in 2000 called Hall Of Heroes . She also wrote a work for the United States Military Academy in West Point called To Keep Thine Honor Bright .
