Anne Wenzel
Anne Wenzel (born May 23, 1972 in Schüttorf , Lower Saxony ) is a German- Dutch sculptor , painter and installation artist . Their material is ceramic .
life and work
Anne Wenzel, born and raised in Schüttorf, studied at the AKI in Enschede and the Escuela Massana in Barcelona. She has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 1999 .
Anne Wenzel has been dealing with monuments and memorials for a long time . The central theme of her work is that these places and monuments, on the one hand, preserve memories and, on the other hand, are themselves subject to decay.
With her work, Wenzel experiments at the limit of what is possible with ceramic as a material. Technology and formats are extreme. She works with large formats, with chemical additives and radical deformations. The sculptures are often part of installations, sometimes combined with ink drawings. She has created several works of art in public spaces.
The sources of inspiration for her sculptures are often historical sources, literature, images from the mass media, photos of natural disasters and war zones.
Wenzel was appointed to a substitute professorship at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.
