Annette Grüters-Kieslich

Annette Grüters-Kieslich (born August 26, 1954 in Gladbeck ) is a German human medicine specialist and university lecturer as well as the head of several medical institutes. From 2008 to the end of 2014 she was the dean of the Berlin University Hospital Charité .

Life

Grüters-Kieslich grew up in Bottrop and attended the municipal girls' high school there. She studied medicine from 1973 to 1980 ; first at the Ruhr University Bochum and later at the Free University of Berlin . After her license to practice medicine in 1980, she received her doctorate in 1982 . From 1980 to 1986 she worked as a research assistant and from 1986 to 1993 as a university assistant at the children's clinic at the Free University of Berlin. Following her habilitation in 1991, Grüters-Kieslich held a position as senior physician at the children's clinic at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital at the FU from 1992 to 1998 . In 1998 she was appointed professor for pediatric endocrinology at the medical faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 2008 to the end of 2014, Grüters-Kieslich was Dean of the Charité Berlin. After a dispute with the rest of the board about the use of third-party funds, she resigned from her position.

From 1998 to 2008, Grüters-Kieslich was the head of the polyclinic and the social pediatric center for chronically ill children at the Otto Heubner Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Charité Berlin. Since 2003 she was entrusted with the management of the Institute for Experimental Pediatric Endocrinology of the medical faculty of the Humboldt University. From 2005 to 2008 she was the medical director of Charité-Centrum 17 (women's, pediatric and adolescent medicine with perinatal center and human genetics). At the beginning of 2015 she was also director of the Pediatric Clinic with a focus on endocrinology and diabetology. On June 1, 2017, Annette Grüters-Kieslich took up her post as Senior Medical Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Management of Heidelberg University Hospital.

Grüters-Kieslich is married and has a son and a daughter. Since 2007 she has been a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences; she was elected Vice-President in June 2015. Grüters-Kieslich has been a member of the Leopoldina since 2011 . Annette Grüters-Kieslich is the chairwoman of the Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation for people with rare diseases .
