Annunziata Rees-Mogg

Annunziata Mary Rees-Mogg (born March 25, 1979 in Bath , Somerset ) is a British politician . She was a member of the European Parliament until January 31, 2020 . She is a member of the Brexit Party and was elected for this in the East Midlands constituency in the course of the European elections in the United Kingdom in 2019 .

She is the sister of the incumbent Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council Jacob Rees-Mogg .

biography

Rees-Mogg was born as the daughter of the journalist William Rees-Mogg, Baron Rees-Mogg and joined the Conservative Party at the age of five. The reason she gave was that she was too young to become a member of the youth organization Young Conservatives and therefore immediately joined the party.

She finished her school education with an advanced level in history , chemistry and economics . She then decided not to go to university , but worked in various jobs in the fields of journalism, stock trading , public relations and publishing .

She opposed the Iraq War and the Hunting Act 2004 .

In the course of the British general election in 2005 , she stood as a candidate for the Conservative Party in the Aberavon constituency in Wales . She received 10.2% of the vote and was fourth out of six candidates.

In the British general election in 2010 , Rees-Mogg was selected as a Conservative candidate in the Somerton and Frome constituency . In the run-up to the election, she was given a good chance. Nevertheless, it was ultimately defeated by the incumbent of the Liberal Democrats , David Heath , with 44.5% of the vote . This won the election with 47.5% of the vote.

In April 2019, Rees-Mogg was presented as a candidate for the Brexit Party for the European elections in the United Kingdom in 2019 . After the victory of the Brexit Party, she moved into the European Parliament as a member. She gave her first speech in the Assembly on September 19, 2019, in which she accused the European Union of defrauding democracy .

In the 2019 general election, shortly before the election, she called for the Conservative Party to vote so as not to undermine Brexit because of the majority vote.

Rees-Mogg has been married to Matthew Glanville since 2010 and has two daughters, Molly and Isadora.
