Hitachi Rail Italia driverless metro
The driverless metro Hitachi Rail Italia is a class of driverless electric multiple units and a corresponding signal system. It is manufactured by Hitachi Rail Italia (formerly AnsaldoBreda ) and Ansaldo STS in Italy and is u. a. in the Copenhagen Metro , the Princess Nora Abdul Rahman University bint in Riyadh , the Metro Brescia , the Thessaloniki Metro , line 5 of the Metro Milan , line C of the metro Rome and the Yellow Line of the Metro Taipei used . The first metro system to use this type of driverless electric multiple unit was the Copenhagen Metro, which opened in 2002. The systems work fully automatically, consisting of automatic train protection (ATP), automatic train operation (ATO) and automatic train monitoring.

Standardized car bodies, which are connected to one another via joints, are used for the vehicles. The number of cars varies in the different systems. The trains used on the Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University system consist of only two cars. With the other systems, the number varies between three and six cars, so that the trains are between 39 and 109 meters long. They are 2.65 meters wide, with the exception of the Rome subway trains (2.85 meters) and the Honolulu trains (3.0 meters wide to comply with Federal Railroad Administration regulations). The vehicles are between 3.4 and 3.85 m high. Each car has two doors on each side that are 1.3 meters wide and 1.945 meters high. The vehicles were designed by Italdesign Giugiaro .
The three- and four-part trains have six three-phase asynchronous motors per train, with each motor having an output of 105 and 128 kilowatts (141 and 172 hp), which gives each train an output of 630 or 764 kilowatts (845 or 1,025 hp) . In each car, the two motors are fed by the car's own bipolar transistor with an insulated gate electrode (IGBT). They convert the 750 volts (1,500 V in Rome and Lima) direct current, which is collected by a power rail (in Rome overhead lines), into the three-phase alternating current used in the motors. The maximum speeds of the trains are 80 or 90 km / h, with an acceleration and deceleration capacity of 1.3 m / s 2 . The trains are fully compatible with the platform screen doors found in all stations in Brescia, Rome and Milan, Copenhagen and Thessaloniki.
