The Metropolitana di Brescia is the metro in the Italian city of Brescia . It opened on March 2, 2013 and is the second metro system in the Lombardy region and the seventh in Italy.

history

The first plans for an alternative to the existing bus system in Brescia began in 1986 in order to counteract the sharp increase in car traffic. A first call for tenders , in which five consortia participated, was launched in 1989. However, this tender was canceled in 1996 due to changes in the plan.

The plans were revised again until the year 2000 and another invitation to tender was made, for which Ansaldo STS was awarded the contract in 2003 with the system of a driverless subway, which is already in use in Copenhagen , among other places .

The construction costs should amount to 750 million euros. These are funded by the City of Brescia (67 million), the Lombardy Region (72.3 million), Brescia Mobilità SpA (86 million), the State (284.4 million) and through a 30-year loan (240.3 million euros ) financed.

The system consists of a line with a length of 13.1 km and 17 stations. 9.7 km of the line run in the tunnel, 1.7 km at ground level and 1.7 km on viaducts.

Stations

The platform levels of all stations are equipped with platform screen doors, as is the case with most underground trains with driverless operation. The platform screen doors open when the incoming trains have reached their original stopping position. All stations are freely accessible and there are no barriers to entry. Ticket machines are located on the respective distribution levels.

business

For the first phase of the metro, 18 trains were ordered by AnsaldoBreda , two of which are intended as a reserve. The trains can transport up to 8,500 people per hour and direction at an interval of 180 seconds. If the development is positive, the fleet will be increased to 40 trains (six of them as a reserve) and the interval shortened to 90 seconds, which would allow 17,000 people to be transported per hour and direction. The trains are in three parts and are 39 m long.
