Network plan in 1937, including the deleted line 5 / and the double line 6/10. |
The Palermo Tram is the tram system of the Sicilian city of Palermo . The standard gauge (1435 mm) network consists of four lines and was opened on December 30, 2015.
After the project was approved in 2005, construction began in 2007.
The operating company is Azienda Municipalizzata Auto Trasporti (AMAT).
history
Between 1887 and 1947 there was already a tram network of around 38 kilometers in Palermo. The network was badly damaged by several bombing raids during World War II. After the adjustment, which has been O bus -Netz expanded (in operation 1939 to 1966) in Palermo.
Considerations for rebuilding a tram in Palermo began in the 1980s. In 2000 the European Investment Bank provided around 160 billion lire (88 million euros) for the construction of three tram lines (along via Leonardo da Vinci , corso Calatafimi , Corso dei Mille ).
In August 2001, the project was temporarily blocked by a commissioner from the city of Palermo, Guglielmo Serio, because parking spaces had to be defined along the route and he did not agree to the guided tour through corso Calatafimi due to limited space. In May 2002 the project was finally approved by the city. For the completion of the lines 1/2/3 44/48/52 months were estimated.
After two tenders with no results, the construction work was awarded to a temporary consortium for 192 million euros. Construction officially began in June 2006, and actually in September 2007.
The first test drives on Line 1 were carried out in July 2014.
All four tram lines were opened on December 30, 2015.
properties
The tram runs largely independently of road traffic and is delimited with boundaries (similar to the Stuttgart thresholds ).
By public transport prioritization high should travel speeds are achieved.
A survey carried out in 2014 revealed "Genio" to be the nickname for the tram in Palermo (corresponding to the patron god of the city of Palermo).
Route network
The route network consists of four lines:
- 1 Roccella - Stazione Centrale
- 2 Borgo Nuovo - Stazione Notarbartolo
- 3 CEP - Stazione Notarbartolo
- 4 Corso Calatafimi - Stazione Notarbartolo
The terminus Stazione Notarbartolo (lines 2, 3, 4) and Stazione Centrale (line 1) are connected by the AMAT 102 bus line .
vehicles
17 Bombardier Flexity Outlook C bidirectional vehicles are used in Palermo . With low-floor entrances, these offer space for 56 seats and 132 standing places.
The vehicles are 32 meters long and 2.40 meters wide. The maximum speed is 70 km / h. The first vehicle was delivered on May 18, 2011.
Perspectives
At the presentation of PRG Palermo 2025 , Mayor Leoluca Orlando announced the construction of three more tram lines: Line 5 is to connect the two stations via Foro Italico and via Notarbartolo . Line 6 connects to line 4 and is supposed to run through the Falsomiele district to Bonagia , cross the Oreto river and end at Orleans train station. Line 7 connects Stazione Centrale with Mondello .
