Jama'atu Ansaril Muslimina fi Biladis Sudan ( German  vanguard for the protection of Muslims in sub-Saharan Africa , English Vanguard for the Protection of Muslims in Black Africa ), better known as ansaru is a jihaddistisch -islamistische Nigerian terrorist organization and is due to strategic differences with Boko Haram since January 2012 an own group.

The leader of Ansaru is Abu Usmatul al-Ansari , who founded the terrorist organization in Sokoto with the caliphate of Sokoto Usman dan Fodio. The group interprets their actions with the defense of the African continent.

Difference from Boko Haram

Ansaru shares the Salafist ideology with the terrorist group Boko Haram , but there are several important differences between the two groups. While the goals of Boko Haram tend to topple the Nigerian government, which it accuses of harming the Muslim-majority north through incompetence, corruption and the unilateral advancement of the interests of the oil-rich South, Ansaru seems to favor a wider regional focus.

Kidnappings

Ansaru first attracted attention by kidnapping two engineers, a British and Italian, in the state of Kebbi in May 2011. This was followed on December 19, 2012 by the kidnapping of the French engineer Francis Collomp in the state of Katsina , in which a police officer and a security guard were killed. Francis Collomp escaped in November 2013. The German civil engineer Edgar Raupach was then kidnapped on January 26, 2012 in Kano . He had worked for the Nigerian company Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company, which was commissioned by the Mannheim construction company Bilfinger Berger . He was killed in May during the liberation operation by Nigerian special forces.

Further foreigners were abducted on February 18, 2013 from the premises of the Nigerian partner company Setraco Nigeria Limited of the international construction company Setraco Group in Jama'are ( Bauchi ) in Nigeria . The foreigners were then pronounced dead on March 10, 2013.

In Bauchi, Sharia has been in force since 2001 , which was introduced by Islamic groups and which enjoys the status of the main source of legislation ( legal positivism ).
