Ansgar Lüttel (born November 23, 1949 in Lingen ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and has been the cathedral dean of St. Peter's Cathedral in Osnabrück since 2016 .

Life

Lüttel studied theology and philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen and Innsbruck . On November 15, 1975, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Helmut Hermann Wittler in Osnabrück Cathedral. Until 1979 he worked as a chaplain in Bersenbrück , then until 1983 as a chaplain at the Provost Church of the Heart of Jesus in Lübeck .

For 25 years he worked as a pastor in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen , from 1983 to 1987 as chaplain at the provost church of St. Johann and from 1987 to 1997 as pastor of the parish of St. Hildegard in Obervieland .

In 1997 he was appointed provost of St. Johann in Bremen by Bishop Franz-Josef Bode and on May 20, 2003, at the suggestion of the Osnabrück bishop, he was appointed papal chaplain by Pope John Paul II with the title of Monsignor . On October 1, 2004, he was appointed non-resident cathedral capitular at the High Cathedral in Osnabrück.

As chaplain to St. Johann, Lüttel became a deputy member of the Broadcasting Council of Radio Bremen and the broadcasting representative of the Catholic Church. As such, he was responsible for the morning prayers and the radio and television services.

During his tenure as provost, he had to say goodbye to sister congregations from Bremen, as they had to leave the Hanseatic city due to a lack of young people. So he brought the Martha Sisters from India , who were employed in the Caritas St. Laurentius nursing home and in the Casritas St. Elisabeth nursing home. Before that, on March 16, 1999, the St. Laurentius Church in the garden city of Vahr was demolished and replaced by the Caritas nursing home and chapel.

Lüttel was significantly involved in the first settlement of the Order of the Birgit in Germany in 2002.

When, after reunification, the Abitur after the twelfth grade came up, he made sure that the St. Johannis School was supplemented by the secondary level II branch. The diocese bought the nearby vacant building of the old imperial post office, known as Post Office I, and moved the upper level of the St. John's School there.

Provost Lüttel played a decisive role in the fact that on November 21, 2003 a concordat between the Holy See and the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen could be concluded for the first time in the Bremen town hall. It came into force on May 13, 2004.

He reacted to the process of secularization that was also noticeable in Bremen by creating five pastoral rooms from 16 parishes in a five-year process with the bodies of the deanery.

Lüttel was often interviewed by Radio Bremen and other media.
During Lüttel's tenure as chairman of the Bremen Caritas Association , the Caritas Center was built on Georg-Gröning-Strasse along with the St. Franziskus nursing home. The St. Joseph Stift hospital was expanded through cooperation with the St. Franziskus Foundation in Münster as well as through renovations and new buildings such as B. the neighboring medical center - the first of its kind at a hospital in Bremen - made fit for the future.

In 2006 Lüttel became chairman of the St. Ansgar plant of the dioceses of Hamburg and Osnabrück. As such, he maintained and promoted contact with the Catholic minorities in the Nordic countries.

In 2008, Lüttel was ceremoniously bid farewell to Bishop Franz-Josef Bode in the St. Johann Provost Church in order to take over the position of personnel officer in Osnabrück. On September 25, 2016, he was appointed cathedral dean of the cathedral chapter at the High Cathedral in Osnabrück.
