Ansgar Schwirtz

Ansgar Schwirtz (* 1959 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Schwirtz completed a degree at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) (graduated as a certified sports teacher in 1983) and a teaching degree (sports, mathematics, educational science) at the University of Cologne (graduated with the first state examination in 1983). Between 1983 and 2000 he was a research assistant at the DSHS in Cologne and at the University of Freiburg , in 1993 he obtained his doctorate in Cologne (subject of his dissertation: "Movement technology and muscular coordination in cross-country skiing").

Between October 2000 and January 2002 he was head of the Institute for Biomechanics at a rehabilitation clinic in Bernau-Felden .

In 2002 Schwirtz took up a professorship for biomechanics in sport at the Technical University of Munich . In 2013 he also accepted the office of dean of the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences.

In 2017 Schwirtz became chairman of the German Association for Sports Science (DVS).

Sports that he examined within the framework of research projects on biomechanical aspects include Nordic skiing and, from a biomechanical and medical point of view, the javelin .
