Antarcella is a genus of unicellular , wired amoeba . It comprises two species and belongs to the Arcellidae family.
features
In the side view, representatives of the genus Antarcella are hemispherical. The housings have a sheath-shaped, circular mouth opening. The cell nucleus belongs to the ovular type, so it contains numerous nuclear corpuscles , this is the only reliable diagnostic feature to distinguish it from representatives of the genus Arcella . There is a contractile vacuole that is 10 to 15 micrometers in diameter.

Antarcella species live as herbivores in peat moss .
Systematics
The genus was first described in 1928 by Georges Deflandre , in 1953 he expanded the description ( Emendation ). The genus includes two species including:
