Robert Joseph Banks

Robert Joseph Banks (born February 26, 1928 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American clergyman and emeritus Catholic bishop of Green Bay .

Robert Banks grew up in the city of his birth and attended Cathedral High School here before entering the seminary . He studied in Rome Catholic theology and was here in the Lateran Basilica on 20 December 1952 by the later Cardinal Dean Luigi Traglia for priests ordained .

For many years, Banks taught canon law at Saint John's Seminary , the seminary of the Archdiocese of Boston , of which he later became rector.

Pope John Paul II appointed Banks Titular Bishop of Taraqua and Auxiliary Bishop of Boston on June 26, 1985 . He received his episcopal ordination on September 19, 1985 from Cardinal Bernard Francis Law . Co- consecrators were Bishops Daniel Anthony Cronin of Fall River and John Aloysius Marshall of Burlington .

On October 16, 1990, the Pope named Robert Joseph Banks Bishop of Green Bay. Bishop Banks campaigned for the spiritual renewal of his diocese and promoted spiritual vocations and pastoral care for Latin American immigrants. He intensively developed the good ecumenical contacts of his predecessor Adam Joseph Maida . In the United States Bishops' Conference he chaired the Education Commission.

On October 10, 2003, Banks' age-related resignation was accepted.
