Scientific name
Antennarioidei

The antennae-like (Antennarioidei) are a taxon of the armfinches (Lophiiformes), to which the frogfish (Antennariidae) and three other, species-poor families belong.

features

The body of the antenna fish-like is high and compressed at the sides. It is scaly and often covered with hair-like skin tags. In contrast to most deep-sea frogfish (Ceratioidei), the sensorfish-like ones still have ventral fins, the pectoral fins are mostly transformed into arm-like running organs. A swim bladder is only present in most species of frogfish, the others lack it.

distribution

Sensorfish-like species live in tropical and subtropical seas around the world. All species, with the exception of the Sargassum frogfish ( Histrio histrio ) that live between drifting perch , live on the sea floor.
