Anthemion

Anthemion frieze

The Anthemion or Anthemien Frieze is a frieze that is made up of alternating lotus blossoms and palmettes , which are connected by tendril chains . They are either arranged in a row in the same direction or alternately up and down. That is why it is often called the palmette frieze. The anthemion was widely used, especially in Greek art and architecture , for example on the neck of Ionic columns, on the frieze above the architrave and on the sima .
