Anthemis abrotanifolia is a lignified, perennial subshrub that reaches heights of 3 to 15 centimeters. The leaves are elongated, usually up to 22, rarely up to 35 millimeters long, pinnate, hairy and dotted with glands. The leaf lobes are linear to oblong-egg-shaped.

When the plant is fruiting, the head stalks are not clubbed. Ray florets are mostly absent or, in the form of Anthemis abrotanifolia f. ligulata Greuter for short. The fruit base is briefly conical. The briefly pointed chaff leaves reach the base of the corolla lobes. The fruit is usually 1.25, rarely up to 1.4 millimeters, obverse-shaped and hardly ribbed. A pappus is missing or is sometimes formed as a serrated, very short edge.

The flowering period extends from May to July.
