Anthon van Rappard
Anton Gerard Alexander van Rappard (born May 14, 1858 in Zeist , † March 21, 1892 in Santpoort ) was a Dutch painter and draftsman . He was a student of Lawrence Alma-Tadema and for about four years in Brussels was a friend and mentor of Vincent van Gogh , who valued him for his social commitment, among other things. The letters that van Gogh wrote to van Rappard are an important source on the life and work of van Gogh.
In the meantime, van Rappard worked in the studio of the history painter Jean-Léon Gérôme .
Today, not least because of his short life, van Rappard's works are rare and fetch high prices.
