Anthony Ainley

Anthony Ainley (born August 20, 1932 in Stanmore , Middlesex , † May 3, 2004 in Harrow , London , England ) was a British actor .

Life

Ainley comes from an acting family. His father Henry was a well-known stage actor and his brother Richard appeared in several Hollywood films. Ainley got his first film role at the age of five. After graduating from school, Ainley first completed an apprenticeship as an insurance salesman. Ainley then completed his acting training at RADA ( Royal Academy of Dramatic Art ). While in school he won a comedy award for his portrayal of Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest . After that, Ainley appeared in the theater for several years. During the 1960s, he was featured in a number of films and television series, including The Avengers and Upstairs Downstairs . In 1975 Ainley Dietz played in Caprona - The Forgotten Land . He later played the master's in the television series Doctor Who . In the 1990s, Ainley gave up professional acting. However, he remained closely associated with the television series Doctor Who and took part in some conventions. 1997 Ainley played again the master, in the computer game Doctor Who: Destiny of the Doctors .

Ainley was a member of the London Theaters Cricket Club team for 30 years . He was never married because, according to himself, he loved his own freedom too much. Ainley died on May 3, 2004.

In 2015, Karen Hollis wrote the first biography about Ainley. It is titled Anthony Ainley - The Man Behind The Master and was published by Fantom Films .
