Anthony Wootton

Anthony Wootton (born August 11, 1935 in Aylesbury , England , † 1988 ) was a British animal and nature book author. He dealt mostly with invertebrates , but also wrote works on elephants , ostriches , antelopes and animal folklore .

Life

Wootton was the son of Albert George and Marion Wootton, nee Ibbotson. After graduating from Aylesbury Grammar School , Wootton worked from 1955 to 1963 as an assistant secretary and librarian in the Department of Ethnology and Prehistory at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford . From 1963 he worked as a freelance author. He has also appeared on radio and television programs, and has written articles and reviews for magazines and newspapers, including Living Countryside , Wildlife , Country Life , Popular Gardening , This England and Countryman . From 1968 to 1980 he was an editor at Country-Side magazine .

Wootton was a member of the Amateur Entomologists Society and an Honorary Life Member of the British Naturalists' Association .
