Anthony de Jasay , born as Jászay Antal (* 1925 in Aba , Hungary ; † January 23, 2019 in Janville , Normandy , France ), was a liberal philosopher and economist .

Jasay was trained in Székesfehérvár and Budapest , where he graduated in agriculture. In the years 1947-1948 de Jasay worked as a freelance journalist and had to flee Hungary in 1948 because of this employment. After two years in Austria , de Jasay emigrated to Australia in 1950. He took a part-time course in economics at the University of Western Australia . In 1955 de Jasay won a scholarship and went to Oxford . He was then appointed to Nuffield College as a research assistant . He stayed there until 1962 and published a number of essays in economic journals.

In 1962 de Jasay moved to Paris and worked as a bank clerk. After a short time he became self-employed and worked in the investment business in several European countries and the USA until 1979 .

De Jasay retired to Janville in Normandy. He was married and had three children.

His original interest was economic issues, but later his focus shifted towards political philosophy. His work, however, represents an intersection of both fields. De Jasay published six books, which have also been translated into several languages.
