Anthophora crinipes is a bee from the family of Apidae . The females canbe confusedwith Anthophora quadrimaculata and Anthophora crassipes , while the males looksimilar to Anthophora plumipes .

features

The bees are 12 to 13 millimeters long. The females are hairy brown-gray, on the vertex, the back of the thorax , and the discs of the tergites are mixed with black hair. The first four tergites have light hair bands on the rear edge, the tergite edges are whitish translucent. The splint brush (Scopa) is whitish. The males have yellow markings on their faces. The hair is the same as in the female. The seventh tergite has two teeth at the end. The tarsithe middle legs have black hair fringes on the front edge of the heel phalanx (metatarsus) and on both sides of the claw peg on all limbs very long, light hair. The heel joint of the hind legs is widened towards the end and at least two and a half times as long as it is wide at the end.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in Southern Europe, occasionally in Central Europe and the Aosta Valley . It flies from late March to early July, with two generations occurring in the south. The females create their nests in the ground. Pollen is collected from various plant families, in particular from mint family (Lamiaceae), predatory leaf family (Boraginaceae) and sunflower family (Asteraceae). The cuckoo bee of the species is Melecta luctuosa .
