Antianeira (daughter of Pheres)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antianeira ( Greek  Ἀντιάνειρα ) is in Greek mythology the daughter of Pheres , granddaughter of Cretheus and great-granddaughter of Aiolos , which is why she belongs to the Aioler family . Her brother is Admetus , the king of Pherai in Thessaly .

In the saga of the Argonauts, Antianeira is the mother of the seer Idmon , who joins the Argonauts , although he already knows from the interpretation of the bird's flight that he will not return home.

While Orpheus only mentions in his Argonautical that Antianeira of Apollon became pregnant with Idmon and then gave birth to Idmon on the bank of the Amphrysus , Apollonios of Rhodes emphasizes that Abas is not Idmon's real father. This suggests that Antianeira was married to Abas.
