Antibacchius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antibacchius (also Palimbacchius or Palimbakcheus , Greek  παλιμβάκχειος palimbakcheios "reverse Bacchius") is a three-part simple verse foot in the ancient verse , with two longas followed by a breve , so the metric scheme is

——◡

Exactly the opposite of Bacchius , in which a breve is placed before two longas (◡——).

The Antibacchius is not an independent pedestal, so it does not form rows, but arises through metric syncope from the trochaic metron —◡ — ◡ when the second abbreviation is omitted.
