Antje Köster (born as Antje Ahner ; born July 21, 1964 in Hattersheim am Main ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2010 to 2016 she was mayor of the Hessian city ​​of Hattersheim am Main.

Life

Antje Köster grew up in Hattersheim. After graduating from the Friedrich-Dessauer-Gymnasium in Frankfurt-Höchst , she studied at the Administrative College in Wiesbaden , combined with an apprenticeship at the Main-Taunus-Kreis . She completed her studies in 1986 with a diploma in administration . After completing her studies, she worked at the district social office of the Main-Taunus district. From 1996 she was head of the social, youth and housing office of the city of Hochheim am Main , later also responsible for the local economic development .

She has a son and a daughter.

Political career

After the incumbent Hans Franssen (SPD) left office for reasons of age after two terms in Hattersheim am Main, she ran as a candidate for the 2010 mayoral election. In the first ballot she got 46.4 percent of the vote with a turnout of 45.5 percent. In the runoff election against the CDU candidate Michael Minnert, she was elected with 56.7 percent and a turnout of 42.6 percent of the vote. In the mayoral election in 2016, Antje Köster was defeated in the second ballot to the challenger of the CDU Klaus Schindling with a difference of 97 votes and left office in September 2016.
