Antoine Franceschetti (born March 12, 1913 in Marseille ; † before 2011 ) was a French football player and coach .

Career

Franceschetti began playing football on the French island of Corsica , where he played for CA Bastia . With the team he won the championship of the Corsican Division d'Honneur in 1933 and thus the title of the island. The 180 centimeter tall striker moved from Bastia in 1935 to the first division club AS Cannes ; professional football had been introduced in France three years earlier . In the top national league he became a regular player and justified this with 23 goals in the course of his first season, which earned him third place in the top scorer list. Between 1936 and 1939 he had 16, then 10 and finally 16 hits followed, even if he had to accept a slippage of his team in the lower half of the table. In 1939 regular game operations were interrupted due to the Second World War.

From 1940 on, Franceschetti was able to continue his career at Cannes as part of the unofficial war championships. In 1942 he reached the cup final of the unoccupied zone of the country with the team, but missed the entry into the national final. The player, who was nicknamed the Sanglier du Marquis (Boar des Marquis ), was 32 years old when the league officially resumed operations in 1945. Despite his age, he remained a regular, but no longer played in the attack, but instead in the defensive midfield . In the course of the 1946/47 season he was increasingly ousted from the team, so that he retired in 1947 at the age of 34 after 151 games with 66 goals in the official time from the highest league in France. With 66 hits, he is the most successful first division shooter at AS Cannes.

After he had left Cannes, Franceschetti signed in 1947 with the second division Le Havre AC , where in addition to his role as a player, he was also given the office of coach. In the double function as player-coach, he played 25 second division games, where he scored one goal, and failed with the team as third in the table just about promotion. In 1948 he ended his active career and did not take on any other coaching post in professional football.
