Antoine I. Grimaldi

Antoine I of Monaco (born January 25, 1661 in Paris , † February 20, 1731 in Monaco ) from the Grimaldi family was Prince of Monaco from 1701 to 1731.

Antoine was the son of Louis I of Monaco and Catherine Charlotte de Gramont (1639–1678).

Antoine was married to Mary of Lorraine, Mademoiselle d'Armagnac from the French house of Guise , in a marriage arranged by Louis XIV of France . From this marriage there were six children, of whom only two daughters reached adulthood:

  1. Antonetta (1690-1696)
  2. Caterina Carlotta (October 7, 1691– June 18, 1696)
  3. Elisabeth Carlotta
  4. Louise-Hippolyte (1697–1731)
  5. Margaretha Camilla (May 1, 1700- April 27, 1758)
  6. Maria Paolina Teresa Devota

Antoine also had several illegitimate children from various love affairs:

  • with the actress and dancer Elisabeth Dufort-Babé
  • with Victoire Vertu (dancer at the Paris Opera)
    • Antoinette Grimaldi , Mademoiselle of Saint-Rémy
  • with an unknown woman
    • Louise Marie Thérèse Grimaldi (1705–1723)

Louise-Hippolyte succeeded Antoine as ruler of Monaco.
