Louis I. (Monaco)
Louis I of Monaco (born July 25, 1642 in Monaco , † January 3, 1701 in Rome ) from the Grimaldi family was Prince of Monaco from 1662 until his death.
Louis was the son of Hercule Grimaldi (1623-1651) and grandson of Honoré II of Monaco , whom he succeeded in 1662. From 1660 he was married to Catherine Charlotte de Gramont, who, in addition to many other affairs, was briefly mistress of Louis XIV . Disappointed by his wife's antics, Louis I joined the army and achieved great fame there.
His marriage had six children, including:
- Antoine I (1661–1731) ∞ Princess Maria of Lorraine
- Francesco Grimaldi (1669–1748), Abbot of Monaco and Archbishop of Besançon
His successor was his son, Antoine I.
