Joseph Antoine Risso , also Giuseppe Antonio (born August 7, 1777 in Nice , † August 25, 1845 ibid) was a French naturalist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Risso ".

Live and act

Risso studied under Giovanni Battista Balbis (1765-1831). He worked as a pharmacist , zoologist and botanist . Risso published Ichthyologie de Nice (1810), Histoire naturelle de principales productions de l'Europe méridionale (1826) and Flore de Nice (1844). Together with Pierre Antoine Poiteau , he wrote Historie naturelle des orangers (1818-1820).

Honors

The plant genus Rissoa Arn is named after Risso . from the diamond family (Rutaceae) and the algae genus Rissoella J.Agardh .
