After the death of his father, who was strictly against his career aspirations, Ascher took dramatic lessons for the stage from Ludwig Tieck on the advice of court actor Ferdinand Heckscher . In 1838 Ascher made his debut in a small supporting role in Hainichen. Appearances in Meißen, Bautzen and Zittau followed. In 1839 he played at the court theater in Wiesbaden and Hanover. From 1840 to 1844 he began working at the Dresden Court Theater. Hamburg followed in 1845, Königsberg from 1846 to 1848 and the Kassel court theater from 1848 to 1849. From 1848 to 1860 he was chief director at the Friedrich Wilhelm Theater in Berlin and from 1860 to 1863 director and actor at the Quai Theater in Vienna . When it burned down in June 1863, he moved to the Carl-Theater in Vienna , where he was director from 1866 to 1872. He then moved to Merano, where he died in 1884. As a result, he was transferred to Vienna and buried at the Israelite Cemetery of the Vienna Central Cemetery (Gate 1, Group 6, Row 29, Grave Number 56).
