Anton messengers
Anton Boten , also Anton Bothe and Antonius Bote (first mentioned 1609 in Augsburg ; last mentioned 1636 in Celle ), was a German painter and master builder of the Renaissance and Mannerism .
life and work
Count Ernst von Schaumburg sent messengers to apprenticeship with Johannes Rottenhammer in Augsburg on a scholarship . It appears first in the interior of Schloss Bückeburg . There he painted the decorative framing of the coffered ceiling in today's golden hall, which contains the representations of the four elements of his teacher Rottenhammer in the spandrels.
In 1620 Ernst commissioned him with the construction of the mausoleum designed by Giovanni Maria Nosseni in Stadthagen and its interior decoration. In the years 1625/26 he painted the angel concert in the form of 14 life-size angels making music in the 7 dome segments of the mausoleum. The luminous cheerfulness of his pairs of figures is explained by his knowledge of painting in Italy, imparted by his teacher Hans Rottenhammer, and from his own experience as a companion of Count Ernst on trips to Venice and Rome. Under the windows, to the right and left of the entrance, are two large-format oil paintings: The Awakening of Lazarus and The Vision of Ezekiel . The signature of the latter reads: “Antonius Boten. Idem qui monumentum hoc architectatus est. Pinxit anno MDCXXVII. “With this he identifies himself not only as a painter, but also as a builder of the mausoleum.
