Anton Crammer

Anton Crammer , also Cramer , (born August 4, 1705 in Pfaffenhofen , † February 19, 1785 in Munich ) was a German Jesuit , preacher and author of counter-Reformation writings.

Life

Crammer, the son of a brewer and mayor, entered the Jesuit order in 1723. In Landsberg am Lech he received extensive theological training and was ordained a priest in Eichstätt in 1736 . In the period that followed, Anton Crammer began to preach intensively, which led him to Switzerland , Munich , Ingolstadt and Ellwangen , among others . Later in Landshut and as court preacher in Neuburg an der Donau , he spent the last years of his life as provost in St. Michael in Munich, where he is buried in the Jesuit crypt under the Kreuzkapelle.

Act

Anton Crammer wrote numerous Counter-Reformation writings that were devoted to the history of the Jesuits and their founder Franz Xaver . Crammer also addressed the importance of Munich for the Jesuits with St. Michael's Church as the center of the Counter-Reformation in his works. Further work honored the successes of the Jesuit order in re-catholizing and dealt with the church liturgy of the late 18th century.

During the Enlightenment, Crammer achieved great success with his sermons among the population and with his writings created the basis for strengthening the Catholic faith in the fight against Luther's teaching .
