Anton Eduardowitsch Waino ( Russian Антон Эдуардович Вайно ; born February 17, 1972 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR , Soviet Union , now Estonia ) is a Russian diplomat. Since August 12, 2016, he has succeeded Sergei Ivanov as Chairman of the Presidential Administration and permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation .

Career

Waino graduated from the Faculty of International Relations at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1996 .

From 1996 to 2001 Waino worked at the embassy in Tokyo . He then worked from 2002 to 2003 in the Second Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . From 2003 to 2007, Waino was a director of the President's Planning Protocol . From April 26 to October 8, 2007, he was the first deputy head of the protocol. From October 8, 2007 to April 25, 2008, he was Deputy Head of Staff of Government Personnel of the Russian Federation and from April 25, 2008 to December 26, 2011, Chief of Protocol to the Prime Minister . From May 22, 2012 to August 11, 2016, he was Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. Since August 12, 2016, he has headed the presidential administration and is a permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation .

Waino is married and has one son. He is of Estonian origin. His father Eduard Waino was a member of the board of directors at the car manufacturer AwtoWAS . Anton Waino's grandfather Karl Vaino was the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Estonian Communist Party from 1978 to 1988 .
