Anton "Toni" Erlacher (born January 10, 1909 in Munich ; † March 12, 1942 in the ASSR of the Crimea , Soviet Union ) was a German wooden sculptor and puppet player .

Life

Anton Erlacher's father was the sculptor Joseph Erlacher . Anton, called Toni, studied sculpture at the Munich School of Applied Arts, then at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts (AdbK) sculpture, entered the winter semester 1933 with the matriculation number 00206. He shared the studio with his father in Ungererstr. 22, Munich. Toni carved puppet figures for the play Owl Castle - A drama mixed with incredible magic . Like his artistic estate, these have been in the Munich City Museum since 1948 . Toni had already performed the play Owl Castle before 1938, and Franz Graf von Pocci's textbook and the guest book are also in his records in the Munich City Museum. The last puppet performance was on April 4, 1940, after which he was drafted into the military. The attempt to perform puppet shows for soldiers at the front failed because of the Munich magistrate, a letter relating to this is kept in the city museum. On March 12, 1942, at the age of 33, he died as a private in the fighting in the Crimea; a photo of his soldiers' grave in the Crimea has been preserved. In 1946 a posthumous contribution was published on the essence of puppetry in the theater almanac: critical year book of stage art .
