Joseph Erlacher

Joseph Erlacher (* 1871 in Munich ; † 1937 ) was a German sculptor and painter .

Life

Joseph Erlacher was born in Munich in 1871. Like his brother Paul, he studied sculpture and painting at the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich. His sister Maria, called Mimmerl, was a chamber singer at the Munich Opera. Joseph Erlacher had a son Anton Erlacher , called Toni (born January 10, 1909 in Munich, died March 12, 1942 in the Crimea), who, like his father, became a sculptor. The joint sculptor's studio was located at Ungererstraße 22, Munich, where work was carried out on projects such as the establishment of a rifle dult on Theresienwiese in 1906 . His work was in the style of the second Biedermeier period, with the exception of church sculptures.

Another artist from the Erlacher family was the Munich painter Karoline Wittmann geb. Erlacher (* 1913 in Munich; † 1978), Joseph Erlacher was her uncle.
